10 Father’s Day Activities for the Whole Family

Struggling to come up with a fun-for-dad activity on Father’s Day? You’re in luck! We’ve pulled together a list of easy-to-execute Dad’s Day plans that’ll not only make dear Pops feel special, but will entertain the whole family, to boot!
Hot Ones
If Dad is a fan of chicken wings and Hot Ones, recreate the spicy show at home! Have everyone in the family takes turns answering challenging questions, pop culture trivia, or questions about Dad while eating increasingly spicy wings. (Feel free to make mild ones for the kids.) Each round, the questions get harder, while the sauces get hotter! Hot tip: Have cold glasses of milk on hand to ice steamy taste buds.
Dinner and a Movie
No fancy-pants white tablecloth reservations-required dinner needed! Instead, make Dad’s favorite food for dinner—even if that’s pigs in a blanket and seven-layer dip! Follow it up with a movie night: His pick. Cap this low-key Father’s Day celebration with a buttery-delicious popcorn bar!
Backyard Campout
Real camping requires a lot of planning, so feel free to save the campsite version of this Father’s Day activity for next year. This Father’s Day, pop a tent in the backyard, drag out the inflatable mattress, light up the fire pit, gather your s’more supplies, and have a blast…mere feet from the comfort of your kitchen and bathroom. To up the Father’s Day celebration factor, decorate the yard with twinkling string lights and tiki torches.
Water Play
If you live near water, make the most of it this Father’s Day: Plan a fishing trip! Rent kayaks or canoes! Try paddle boarding! Get a sunset cruise or a tubing adventure on the calendar! Fill the cooler and lounge on the beach! If you’re nowhere near a lake, a pond, or the ocean, consider stocking up on some water balloons and/or super soakers for the family and take the Dad’s Day party to the yard. Feel free to buoy the celebration with an adult-size inflatable pool, like this one complete with Dad-friendly cup holder and backrests!
Scavenger Hunt!
Why hand Dad his Father’s Day gift when you can create an elaborate scavenger hunt for him to find it? Brainstorm with the kids to come up with a list of riddles and clues that’ll lead Dad to his present. Some ideas to get you in a clue-creating state of mind:
-
Morning, Daddy! Happy Father’s Day to you! To receive your special gifts, start with this clue…
-
With you as our daddy, life is never boring. Head to where you’re always snoring!
-
What has two wheels and goes vroom, vroom? Perhaps your next clue is hiding where you go zoom!
-
Thank you so much for all you do! High tail it to where your cuppa brews!

Cruising
Does the dad in your life digs cars? Consider renting a sports car or convertible for the afternoon! Alternatively, book a few laps around your local go-kart racing course or—if you have a car museum in your area—inquire about possible Father’s Day ride-along events. For example, The Zimmerman Museum in El Segundo, California will chauffeur Daddy around in a classic car for a nominal fee, all while sharing info about the vehicle. Post-ride beer tasting included!
Guilt-Free Naptime
Dads love an afternoon nap like no other! This Father’s Day, leave him to indulge in the sofa snooze of his dreams. Simply schedule a fun park or museum visit with the kiddos during Daddy Naptime. Best gift ever.
Arcade Fun
Reacquaint Dad with his inner child by making your way to your local arcade for some high-score-seeking good times! If there are no classic arcades near you, keep chains like Dave & Busters and Lucky Strike in mind, as well as bowling alleys and family-friendly pubs that may have some classics tucked inside.
Sports!
June is primetime for baseball! Whether you want to attend a Major League game, go to a Minor League matchup, or put together a neighborhood baseball game at the local diamond, a baseball-centered gift will surely knock this Father’s Day out of the park. Not into foul balls and home runs? Then take your celebration to the pitch: Major League and USL Championship soccer is in full effect in June, too.
