When is white noise (“shushing”) too loud for the baby?
Using the white noise to shush your crying/fussy baby is great & Dr. Karp recommends you & your husband continue to do so. A tip when trying to determine what the correct noise level should be at is to play the CD of white noise as loud as the baby is crying. As his cries dissipate, the level of white noise can be turned down to the level of a soft shower and should continue to be played for the duration of the nap/nighttime sleep. Another great tip is, if it sounds too loud to your ears, it might also be too loud for your baby’s.
