Help! How do we undo the fabulous swaddle technique?
Some babies need swaddling up to 9-10 months of age, but rarely longer. A great tool to be used when trying to wean from the swaddle & for sleep in general is our ‘Super-Soothing’ Sleep Sounds CD of white noise. Dr. Karp suggests playing tracks 3, 4 or 5 at the sound level of a shower and play continuously throughout their naps and nighttime sleeps. Your babies will find it much easier to wean from the swaddle when there is sound in the room. After a few nights of continuously playing white noise for your twins, try swaddling them with one arm out of the swaddle as described on page 218 of The Happiest Baby on the Block book. Once your twins are sleeping soundly with one arm out, you can try & stop the swaddling altogether (continue to play white noise throughout this process).

My 4 month old is swaddled and sleeps in the swing. How do I wean her off? Do I do both at once or one at a time.
don’ forget to use our white noise CD all night…that will help the weaning go much better…start with the swing…then the swaddle…and use the sound until at least 12 months (all this is described in the book)
use a light gauzy blanket…and just a diaper…you may also need a fan…or AC…if your baby is still hot/sweaty you may have to just stop the swaddle…don’t forget to use our womb sound CD..it will help you wean the swaddle earlier and keep your baby sleeping better after the swaddling is over
The first thing I would try is to add a strong, rumbly womb sound all naps and nights…that should help her learn to self calm without th eneed for her fingers (most babies are not coordinated enough to be out of the swaddle until they reach around 4 months). I hope that helps. I may be biased, but I think the most effective sound is our Soothing White NoIse Sleep Sounds CD (on our website or on iTunes). Dr. K
Let her practice with her hand during the day…but for the next 2 months use the swaddle for naps/nights and give her a pacifier to suck to fall asleep. Also, be sure to use a CD of rumbly white noise all night.
