During this very very hot weather in California the temperature in the hot is running in the 80’s, is it wise to have the baby swaddled?

Overheating is a concern when swaddling so it is very important you are using a lightweight, breathable fabric. Fabrics such as muslin are great and make sure you are swaddling without an extra layer of clothing already on (ie; diaper only). Solana or Aden + Anais make great lightweight muslin swaddling blankets. If the temperature of the room still seems hot, it may be beneficial to have a fan going on at all times to keep the room temperature cool. It is very important though to keep a close eye on the baby when he/she is swaddled to make sure he/she are not overheated. A tip on finding out if the baby is too hot, is to feel his/her neck and ears; if they feel warm or sweaty or if the forehead is moist from sweat, they need to be cooled off.
